Global Competitiveness Index 2017-18


With India climbing 30 positions up the ladder and reaching the 100th mark out of 190 evaluated global economies in the World Bank Ease of Doing Business 2018, there implies a huge positive signal to the investor community about the business environment in India. Coming precisely to the state level, Department of Industrial Policy Promotion's rankings on the implementation status of Business Reform Action, Andhra Pradesh has emerged as the top scorer among the fellow Indian states, with 98.78% of the implementation status.

Planning Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh in 2015 had started an exercise of benchmarking its progress against the World economies, an outcome of which was computing the Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) 2015-16 for the state of AP. A survey covering 250 business leaders and entrepreneurs in the state was carried out which led to very motivating results, with Andhra Pradesh scoring 4.35 and a rank equivalent of 51 that was better than India (score: 4.31; rank: 55). The increased confidence of the investors in Andhra Pradesh provided a fillip to the state to provide them with better conditions of carrying out their businesses in terms of increasing the state's overall competitiveness.

The second round of GCI for 2016-17 was more encouraging with AP scoring 4.57 and rank equivalent of 36 as compared to India with a score of 4.52 and rank 39. AP has not only gained significantly in the areas of Institutions, Infrastructure, and Technological Readiness; but has also made a mark in the range of efficiency-driven economies. Characterized with a rich demographic dividend, vast pool of natural resources, and efficiently performing public institutions the State aims at being in top 25 economies in terms of competitiveness.

These rankings at the global and state level are a clear indication to an improved business scenario in India and Andhra Pradesh, specifically. To assess its annual progress along the GCI, GoAP has started to conduct the third round of the survey, for the year 2017-18 . The development activities carried out across the state of Andhra Pradesh over the past three and a half years have built a trust among the citizens and investors. We are determined to be among the front-runners this time yet again.
